Titanium Wedding Band Properties - part 1
by Afshin Yaghtin
It is used to replace heart valves and bones. Airplanes are made from it, space capsules are composed of it, and most recently, Apple put out a computer made entirely of it. Tiger Woods uses this material, as do many other golfers. Give up? We are talking about titanium, a metal that has numerous uses. However, the most recent use of Titanium is not for health improvement, protection from the elements, or for the betterment of a sports game. Titanium has become an extremely popular choice for a wedding band.
Titanium is one of the more unusual choices for a wedding band. It is the best choice in metal for people who suffer from allergies because it causes no skin irritation. It is a natural element, listed on the periodic table. Titanium is lightweight, strong, and corrosion-resistant. This metal will not scratch and ding like some of its counterparts. Titanium in its pure form will not react to salt water, sweat, sunlight, or other everyday contact occurrences.
This fits the needs of the modern wedding ring wearer perfectly. A pure titanium wedding band is often chosen as the groom’s ring because of the shiny, intriguing dark hue of the metal. It is a deep, smoky gray that lends itself almost to black. The atypical quality of Titanium that so many ring buyers find enthralling is that it can be re-colored. Should a couple choose, there is a heating process by which the titanium can absorb different levels of Oxygen. The oxidization changes the color of the ring. The process is controlled, allowing the ring to be any color from its pure dark smoky color, to a deep blue or purple! Traditionally, the most common choice is the natural dark color.
Just like other wedding bands, Titanium rings can be engraved. There is however, one downfall to this choice. Because of the strength of Titanium, the ring cannot be resized. On occasion the ring may be enlarged by stretching, but never soldered to make it smaller. However, if you are aware of the sizing issues before you purchase or if your jeweler offers an exchange policy, such as at Wedding-Band-Ring.Com, http://wedding-band-ring.com, Titanium is a beautiful choice of metal for a wedding band for the modern bride and groom.
